The picture of the economic situation in Europe resulting from the crisis that began in 2008 looks rather asymmetrical and diverse with regions that were not or hardly touched by the crises at all, with regions that were touched but that seem to recover rather progressively and with regions that still suffer quite a lot from the crisis. Multifaceted demographic dynamics have shaped population growth in Mediterranean Europe, reflecting a metropolitan cycle from urbanization to re-urbanization. To assess the distinctive impact of economic downturns on population dynamics, the present study illustrates the results of an exploratory analysis that assesses urban expansion and rural decline at various temporal scales in Greece, a peripheral country in southeastern Europe. Socio-economic implications of the Coronavirus pandemic in Latvia

The spread of COVID-19 requires immediate policy response and future-oriented actions to reduce devastating economic and social impact of crisis and preserve sustainable growth. The aim of this paper is to assess the current economic and social consequenses of the ongoing crisis in Latvia, the government response, public perceptions and future scenarios. Research is based on the macroeconomic assessment and surveybased analysis of people’s attitude towards the government's emergency programs. The comparison of statistically justified findings with the public perception helps formulate conclusions on the future sustainability scenarios and policies.
